This specimen was lot 4176 in Sincona sale 87 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 2,200 CHF (about US$2,963 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Waadt/Vaud, 5 Batzen 1806, Lausanne. Sehr seltener Jahrgang. Fast FDC. Äusserst seltene Erhaltung. (Switzerland, canton of Vaud, five batzen of 1806, Lausanne mint. Very rare date, About uncirculated, Extremely rare condition.)"
After being temporarily unified under Napoleon's Helvetic Republic, the cantons went their separate ways after the Congress of Vienna and issued a torrent of low value coins. Not until 1850 would a unified confederation mint her own coins and terminate the local issues. This type was struck 1805-06 and is very scarce. Forty batzen made a thaler.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: billon, this specimen 4.37 g.
