This specimen was lot 33381 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it sold for $998.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "George III 1/2 Crown 1817 MS66 NGC. Smaller, or Later Portrait type. The earlier type was deemed unflattering to the king, and withdrawn." The large head type was struck 1816-17 only and the small head 1817-20. Both are expensive in XF or better.
