This specimen was lot 31220 in Heritage sale 3105 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $3,840. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Westphalia. Jerome Napoleon Taler 1812-C MS65 NGC, Kassel mint. Large bust variety. Among the finest of these always popular Napoleonic issues, with none across the series besting our current example. Laudably bold in its striking as to articulate each strand of hair backlit by a omnipresent champagne glow. Ex. Johann Max Böttcher Collection (Harald Möller Auction 42, November-December 2006, Lot 1967). From the Cape Coral Collection, Part II." This type was struck in Cassel 1811-13. Westphalia was assembled from various northwest German principalities and given to Jerome, Napoleon's brother, to rule. At the Congress of Vienna, the area was restored to its former lords, Hannover and Prussia.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
