Steve Album sale 51, lot 3016

The first specimen was lot 6486 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Westphalia. 1/6 Taler, 1812-B. Brunswick Mint. NGC MS-64. KM-unlisted. High grade and lustrous with diaphanous multi-hued toning over all of the surfaces." The second specimen was lot 3016 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $150. The catalog description[2] noted, "WESTPHALIA: Jérôme (Hieronymus) Napoleon, 1807-1813, AR 1/6 thaler, Braunschweig, 1812-A, faint evidence of cleaning, PCGS graded UNC details." This was struck 1808-13 at Brusnwick (mintmark B, shown here) and Clausthal (mintmark C). Jerome, Napoleon's brother, served him faithfully, stripping his domain of men and money for the Russian campaign. The kingdom collapsed after the battle of Leipzig. At the Congress of Vienna, the area was restored to its former lords, Hannover and Prussia.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 5.85 g, 0.500 fine silver, .094 troy oz ASW.
