This scheepjesschelling was struck for Zeeland, a province of the Netherlands, 1750-93. It is priced fairly low in the SCWC but is seldom seen at American coin shows, particularly in nice condition. These also occasionally turn up struck in gold.
The second specimen was lot 72429 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2020), where it sold for $1,440. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Zeeland. 6 Stuivers, 1753. PCGS MS-62 Gold Shield. KM-P29. Piefort. Population of one at PCGS with just one graded finer. A well detailed coin with soft lustrous surfaces, gun metal gray toning, and one light scuff in the reverse field." The cataloguers have attributed this example to KM P29 as a piedfort (listed therein for 1753, 1754 and 1759) but there is also a series of double weight scheepjesschillings (KM 90a) listed for 1750-61. Alas, without knowing the weight, we can't tell which this is.
Recorded mintage: 712,588 for 1753-55.
Specification: 4.95 g, 0.583 fine silver, .093 troy oz ASW.
Catalog reference: regular issue: KM 90.1; piedfort: KM 90a or KM-P29.
