Zeeland 1755 duit
This specimen was lot 65 in Schulman auction 388 (Amsterdam, December 2025), where it sold for €4,800 (about US$6,764 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Duit, ZEELAND Provincie 1580 - 1795, 1755, Gold In goud geslagen op het gewicht van een dukaat. Met grote letters ✶ burcht ✶ / ZEE / LAN / DIA / jaartal. Kz. gekroond ingebogen provinciewapen, leeuw met staartkrul naar achteren LUCTOR ET EMERGO. Kabelrand. Uit de Zeeuwse Leeuw collectie. RRRR. Van de allerhoogste zeldzaamheid Kleine klemspoortjes, sterke details. Bijna prachtig. (duit of 1755, province of Zeeland, off metal strike in gold in ducat weight, with large letters and date. Reverse: crowned arms of the province, reeded edge, from the Zeeland Lion collection. Of the highest rarity, small marks from a bezel, sharp details, nearly extremely fine.)"
Zeeland struck copper duits for circulation 1724-27, 1735-37, 1740-41, 1747-49, 1752-66. Gold presentation strikes are noted for 1754-57. Silver strikes also exist.
