This specimen was part of lot 23137 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), which sold for $152.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "MIXED LOTS. Lot of (4) Mixed Certified World Coins, 1882-1930. NGC/PCGS AU-55 to MS-62 BN. Begins with an 1882-A Greece 5 Lepta in NGC MS-62 BN (easily the best coin in the lot), followed by a 1906-A [sic] German Empire Mark in NGC AU-55, then a 1911 Australia 6 Pence in NGC AU-58, and finally a 1930 Portugal 50 centavos in PCGS AU-58. Straight graded problem free coins with even color, that are nice representative examples of these highly collectible issues. Approximate retail value of about $400." This coin is a silver one mark from a type issued 1890-1916 from the Berlin (mintmark "A"), Munich (mintmark "D"), Muldenhutten (mintmark "E"), Stuttgart (mintmark "F"), Karlsruhe (mintmark "G") and Hamburg (mintmark "J") mints. Under the German Empire of 1871-1918, the denominations of [[Saxony 1909 2 mark|two mark]] and up were permitted for the formerly independent principalities while the lower denominations (one pfennig thru one mark) were minted to a unified design. The pre-war silver marks are not rare tho the 1909-A is a better date.
