Künker sale 336, lot 6664

This specimen was lot 6664 in Künker sale 336 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €2,000 (about US$2,617 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"GERMAN COINS SINCE 1871, REICHSKLEINMÜNZEN. 25 Pfennig 1909, J. Sehr selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Polierte Platte. (Germany, minor coinage of the empire, twenty-five pfennig of 1909-J. Very rare in this condition, proof.)"

This type was struck 1909-12 in moderate quantities and is not common. The 1909-J is the only rare date. It is a product of the Hamburg mint.

Recorded mintage: 10,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 4.10 g, nickel, 23 mm diameter.
