Künker sale 352, lot 1872

This specimen was lot 1872 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €2,800 (about US$3,897 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-CALENBERG-HANNOVER, AB 1692 KURFURSTENTUM HANNOVER, Georg III. 1760-1820. Dukat 1798, Clausthal. Ausbeute der Harzer Gruben. GOLD. Min. gewellt, winz. Kratzer, fast vorzüglich. (Germany, electorate of Hannover, George III, ducat of 1798, Clausthal mint, for the Harz mines. Slighlty wavy, minor scratches, about extremely fine.)"

Friedberg lists these ducats, minted from gold mined in the Harz mountains, for 1767-1818. The SCWC breaks the issue into three types, KM 359 (1767-89), KM 396 (1791-1800, shown here) and KM 111 (1815 and 1818). All are scarce.
