Sincona sale 69, lot 851

This specimen was lot 851 in Sincona sale 69 (Zürich, May 2021), where it sold for 2,200 CHF (about US$2,920 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"THE NETHERLANDS | Province of Holland. 2 Dukaten 1656. Selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Vorzüglich. (Netherlands, province of Holland, double ducat of 1656. Rare, especially in this condition, Extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1645-63. It is much scarcer than the single ducat. Holland was the largest and wealthiest part of the United Provinces, now the kingdom of the Netherlands.
