Goldberg sale 69, lot 4080
Sardinia 1769 doppia rev Goldberg 69-4080.jpg

This specimen was lot 4080 in Goldberg sale 69 (Los Angeles, May, 2012), where it sold for $2,070. The catalog description [2] noted, "Italian States - Sardinia. Doppia, 1769. Carlo Emanuele III, 1730-1773. Head left. Reverse: Crowned arms. NGC graded About Uncirculated, Details (Rim Damage)." This type was struck 1755-72 with all dates listed as rare. Altho doppia means "double," this coin is not a double ducat but a double scudo d'oro so we have excluded it from our category of gold ducats.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 9.64 g, .905 fine gold, 26 mm diameter, .280 troy oz AGW, this specimen 9.6 grams.

Catalog reference: Fr-1105; KM 51 (formerly KM-C31).
