Sardinia 1763 1/2 doppia Fr-1106
This specimen was lot 2677 in Sincona sale 87 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 4,250 CHF (about US$5,723 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALIEN Savoyen / Sardinien, Carlo Emanuele III. 1730-1773. 1/2 Doppia 1763, Torino. Sehr selten. Vorzüglich. (Italy, kingdom of Sardinia, Charles Emanuel III, 1730-73, half doppia of 1763, Turin mint. Very rare, Extremely fine.)"
This type was struck steadily 1755-72 along with a gold doppia (KM C31) but all dates are scarce. In other parts of Italy, a doppia was a double ducat but in Sardinia a doppia was a double scudo, hence the different weight standard. The mintage reported below is for the whole series.
Recorded mintage: 933,747 for 1755-72.
Specification: 4.76 g, 0.905 fine gold, 22 mm diameter, this specimen 4.79 g.
