Sincona sale 84, lot 426

This specimen was lot 426 in Sincona sale 84 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 6,000 CHF (about US$8,080 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RUSSIA Russian Empire and Federation, 20 Kopecks 1861, St. Petersburg Mint, SPB FB. Proof. Very rare in this condition. PCGS PR64 CAM."

This subtype was struck 1860-66. The regular strikes are fairly common but the proofs are rare. In 1867, the weight was reduced to 3.60 g, 0.500 fine silver and struck in that form until the collapse of the regime.

Recorded mintage: 19,000,000 (mintmasters МИ + ФБ + no initials).

Specification: 4.14 g, 0.750 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM Y22.2, Bitkin 173.
