This specimen is one of a series struck 1751-60 during the reign of Ferdinand VI (1746-59). The variety shown is an overdate, 1752/1. This, along with the regular variety for the year, are considered by Gilboy[1] to be extremely rare. As a class, colonial coinage of Peru is much less plentiful than that of Mexico, tho it is more available than the remaining mints. However, Harris[2] noted only one-fifth as many Peruvian half reales of Charles III as that of Mexico, so it can generally be said that these fractionals are scarce.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 1.69 grams, 0.917 fine silver, 0.049 troy oz ASW.
Catalog reference: Cayón-10181 (overdate), L-05-2a, KM 51.
