Künker sale 335, lot 4267

This specimen was lot 4267 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €2,200 (about US$2,879 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SACHSEN, SACHSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM. Johann Georg I. und August, 1611-1615. Reichstalerklippe 1615, Dresden, auf das Armbrustschießen bei der Taufe des Prinzen Christian, 3. Sohn Johann Georgs I. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Sauber ausgeprägtes Exemplar mit herrlicher Patina, vorzüglich . (Germany, electorate of Saxony, John George I and August, 1611-15, klippe thaler of 1615, Dresden mint, for the crossbow festival at the baptism of prince Christian, third son of John George. Scarce in this quality, well struck with beautiful patina, extremely fine.)"

Many Saxon thalers of the period, such as Dav-7573, are common, but this commemorative is rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 29,02 g.

Catalog reference: KM 82, Dav-7587; Schnee 805; Clauß/Kahnt 83.
