Sincona sale 47, lot 1803

This specimen was lot 1803 in Sincona sale 47 (Zürich, May 2018), where it sold for 425 CHF (about US$510 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Greichenland, Otto, 1832-1862. 1 Lepton 1843, München. schön-vorzüglich. (kingdom of Greece, Otto, 1832-62, one lepton of 1843, Munich mint. Very fine-extremely fine.)"

This type is listed for 1832-43 and, like most of the issues of nineteenth century Greece, is scarce, despite the substantial mintage. King Otto fell foul of the local politicians and was forced to abdicate in 1863.

Recorded mintage: 630,000.

Specification: copper, this specimen 1.28 g.

Catalog reference: Karamitsos 30, Divo 29, KM 13.
