Greece 1847 lepton
This specimen was lot 2964 in Sincona sale 57 (Zürich, May 2019), where it sold for 5,500 CHF (about US$6,325 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Otto, 1832-1862. 1 Lepton 1847, Athen. Sehr selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. PCGS MS63BN. Kleiner Schrötlingsfehler, sonst Prachtexemplar mit feinem Prägeglanz. (kingdom of Greece, Otto I, 1832-62, one lepton of 1847, Athens mint. Very rare, especially in this condition, Small flan defect, otherwise cabinet piece with nice mint luster.)"
This rare type was struck 1847-49. King Otto fell foul of the local politicians and was forced to abdicate in 1863.
