This is an example of a type struck 1773-89 at Potosi, Bolivia (then called Upper Peru). In 1786, the purity was reduced to 0.896 fine. It was replaced in 1791 by the bust of Charles IV. Harris[1] notes that Potosi one reales of Charles III are nearly tied with Mexico City as the commonest mint. Assayer PR is recorded for 1776-95.
