This specimen was lot 2303 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "DURRANI: Shah Shuja', 2nd reign, 1803-1809, AR rupee, Khitta Kashmir, AH1220 year 3, cleaned (very lightly), NGC graded UNC details." This type was struck at Kashmir for years 1 thru 6. In 1809, Shah Shujah was overthrown in battle and exiled. He was reinstalled in Kabul in 1839 by the British and the Sikhs and made himself unpopular with the gruesome vengeance he took upon his perceived enemies. He was ambushed and assassinated in 1842 by his godson.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 10.8-11.2 g, silver.
Catalog reference: A-3122K, KM-598.
