This specimen was lot 21236 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Las Vegas, August 2020), where it sold for $4,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Palatinate (Pfalz). 1/2 Ducat, 1673. Karl Ludwig. NGC AU-55. Armored bust r. in a faintly defined circle, within titles Count Palatine of the Rhine, High Treasurer of the Empire, Prince Elector and Duke of Bavaria. Rv. Large helmet and flamboyant mantling tower over three shields, legend DOMINVS PROVIDEBIT, The Lord Will Provide. This diminutive Gold coin is the RAREST of three fractional Ducats struck for this ruler, one of exactly two specimens in existence today. Exceptionally RARE and sought after by generations of collectors, this pleasing example is enhanced by a bold strike and abundant luster for outstanding visual quality and undeniable appeal.
