Pfalz 1674 1/2 ducat Fr-2002
This specimen was lot 1554 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €13,000 (about US$18,408 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHE MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN · PFALZ, KURFÜRSTENTUM Karl Ludwig, 1648-1680. 1/2 Dukat 1674, Heidelberg. Ausbeute aus Rheingold. Geharnischtes Brustbild r. mit umgelegtem Mantel und Löwenkopfschulter//Drei aneinandergelehnte Wappenschilde (Pfalz, Regalien und Bayern), darüber verzierter Helm. GOLD. Von größter Seltenheit. Attraktives Exemplar mit feiner Goldpatina, vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Leu 74, Zürich 1998, Nr. 1096. (Germany, electorate of the Palatinate, Charles Louis, 1648-80, half ducat of 1674, Heidelberg mint, gold from the Rhine. Obverse: mantled bust right with lion's head on the shoulder; reverse: three adjacent arms of Pfalz, Regalien and Bavaria, ornate helmet above. Extremely rare, attractive example with fine gold patina, extremely fine.)
Dies ist die älteste, als solche bezeichnete Flußgoldprägung und von außerordentlicher Seltenheit. Nach dem Vorkommen zu urteilen, sind nur sehr wenige Exemplare überliefert. Zur Ausprägung wurden anscheinend zwei Vorderseitenstempel benutzt. (This is the oldest designated river gold coin and is extremely rare. Judging by its abundance, only very few examples have survived. Two obverse dies were apparently used for its striking.)"
