This specimen was lot 2598 in UBS sale 83 (Zürich, September 2009) where it sold for CHF 1150 (about US$1322 including buyer's fee). The catalog description noted, "Taler 1679. Selten in dieser Erhaltung! Gutes vorzüglich," (Bern 1679 thaler, rare in this grade, good extremely fine). The climbing bear is the badge of Bern, Switzerland. This type is the most available of the Bernese thalers of the seventeenth century.
