Stack's Bowers 2015 NYINC sale, lot 1736

This specimen was lot 1736 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $1,527.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND. Bern. 2 Duplone, 1793. PCGS AU-58 Secure Holder. Nice strike. Strong luster, particularly at periphery." This expensive type is listed for 1793-95 while the canton was under the domination of the French revolution. In Geneva, this coin was a double pistole; in Luzern, a 24 munzgulden, in Solothurn, a double duplone. The coin is modeled on a double louis d'or of France.
