Bern 1793 duplone Fr-182
This specimen was lot 3077 in Sincona sale 59 (Zürich, October 2019), where it sold for 4,750 CHF (about US$5,750 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SWITZERLAND | Bern | Stadt und Kanton, Duplone 1793, Bern. Fast FDC. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (Switzerland, canton of Bern, duplone of 1793, Bern mint. About uncirculated, Magnificent condition.)"
This scarce denomination was struck in three types in 1793: KM 142: spade arms/standing knight, date under knight; KM A143: oval arms/standing knight; and KM 143: oval arms/wreath (shown here). It is accompanied by a double duplone (Fr-181). A duplone was worth about two ducats.
