Goldberg Sale 137, lot 1472
G137-1472r.jpg

This specimen was lot 1472 in Goldberg Sale 137 (Los Angeles, January 2024), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "Finland. 5 Pennia, 1873. Alexander II. Pop 1; 1 in 64RB. Only 2 graded at PCGS in Red and Brown. This coin is photo[graphed] in the PCGS Pop report. PCGS graded MS-63 Red & Brown." This type is listed for 1872-75 and was struck for Finland by the czarist administration. Russian defeats in World War One enabled the Finns, who had long chafed under Russian rule, to declare independence. This date is common in grades up thru Very Fine.

Recorded mintage: 1,000,000.

Specification: 6.4 g, copper, 25 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-4.2.
