This type was struck 1752-60 for king Ferdinand VI. It is one of only two years struck with the assayer initial J. Gilboy[1] considers this year extremely rare (less than 10 pieces extant). As a class, pillar coinage of Peru is much less plentiful than that of Mexico, though it is more available than the remaining mints. One reales are quite scarce.

Mexican numismatists hotly debate which side of the coin constitutes the obverse. Gilboy[1] depicts the shield side as the obverse as that side bears the king's name. However, auction catalogs and dealer listings more frequently use the pillars and globes side as the obverse, as that side bears the date.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.38 g, 0.917 fine silver, 0.100 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: Cayón-10297, KM-52; Gilboy L-1-1.
