This specimen was lot 21318 in Stack's Bowers ANA Auction (Denver, CO, August 2017), where it sold for $19,387.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. 8 Escudos, 1705-H. Philip V (1700-46). PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, Unc Details Secure Holder. Great centering. Previously cleaned, though a wholesome and desirable example. Bold strike, quite lustrous and excellent eye appeal. From the Blue Moon Collection. Ex: 1715 Plate Fleet." Cob eight escudos were struck at the Lima mint 1701-47 for Philip V of Spain and became the "doubloons" of pirate lore.
