This specimen was lot 31320 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $4,560. The catalog description[1] noted, "Philip V gold Cob Escudo 1710 MXo-J MS62 NGC, Mexico City mint. Exhibiting a far better strike than is typical of the type, with pleasing amounts of the shield and reverse cross remaining visible in addition to a full assayer initial and partial mintmark. The four digits in the date are also fully legible, making this a great rarity for the date. Certain to attract spirited collector interest. Selections from the Isaac Rudman Numismatic Cabinet." All Mexican colonial gold may be considered scarce. This type is listed for 1702-12. Most specimens lack dates.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.38 g, 0.917 fine gold, .100 troy oz AGW.
Catalog reference: Cayón-9516, Fr-7c; KM 51.1, Cal-505.
