Stack's Bowers October 2021 Collector's Choice sale, lot 71001

This specimen was lot 71001 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $1,200. The catalog description^[1] noted, "GIBRALTAR. 1/2 Crown, 1998. Pobjoy Mint. Elizabeth II. NGC PROOF-69 Ultra Cameo. An intriguing and rather popular issue featuring the peacock's splendor in a sparkling, iridescent hologram, this piece is undoubtedly at the cusp of perfection, with just a few minor copper spots preventing the ultimate designation." The semi-autonomous colony of Gibraltar has been captured by the Pobjoy Mint and used as a conduit for the issue of hundreds of NCLT on serious and frivolous topics. This is an early experiment in producing colored coins.
