CNG Lissner sale, lot 382

This specimen was lot 382 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $726. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE, Royal (Restored). Charles X. 1824-1830. AR Franc. Paris mint; différents: initials/anchor. Nicolas-Pierre Tiolier, engraver general. Jean-Pierre Collot, director. Dated 1829 A. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 64. Deep iridescent tone." A complete set of this type comprises 84 date and mintmark combinations, many very rare. The entire production run, 1825-30, totaled about 5.3 million pieces. The production of five franc pieces in the same period was 123 million. This date is priced about 80% more than the commonest dates (1828A and 1828W).

Recorded mintage: 289,484[2].

Specification: 5 g, 0.900 fine silver, 23 mm diameter, reeded edge. Designed by Auguste François Michaut, 1786-1879. This specimen is Ø23 mm, 5.05 g, 6h axis.

Catalog reference: VG 450; KM 724.1, F.207/49.
