This specimen was lot 27251 in Heritage sale 3022 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $199.75. The catalog description[2] noted, "Charles X 5 Francs 1829-W, AU, deep gray toning. Virtually no wear and a coin with strong eye appeal. Exceptional." This type was struck during the reign of Charles X of France (1824-30) from numerous mints. The silver five francs of this regime are divided into two types, most easily distinguished by the position of MICHAUD's name near the base of the king's bust. The specimen shown is the second type and was struck at Lille. It is common.
Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, 37 mm diameter, edge lettered DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM. Designed by Auguste-François Michaut (1786-1879).
