Stack's Bowers 2025 ANA sale, lot 43370

This specimen was lot 43370 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $2,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Empire. 5 Francs, 1807-K. Bordeaux Mint. Napoleon I. PCGS VF-30. Standing as the only such example of the type in the PCGS census, this circulated crown remains wholesome and original. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Fritz Weber on 7 October 1971 for $85)." This type was struck 1806-07 at twelve mints. The subsequent five francs of 1807-08 adorned Napoleon's head with a laurel wreath.

Recorded mintage: 10,220, a scarce date.

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, 37 mm diameter, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE, designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier (1763-1819).
