This specimen was lot 74316 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2025), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRALIA. Dollar, 2013-P. Perth Mint. Elizabeth II. PCGS PROOF-70 Deep Cameo. Opal Series-Pygmy Possum." Wikipedia comments, "The pygmy possums are a family of small possums that together form the marsupial family Burramyidae. The five extant species of pygmy possum are grouped into two genera." The animal depicted here is stylized but is probably the eastern pygmy possum (Cercartetus nanus), native to the Sydney area. The Perth Mint also used this denomination for KM 1824a, 1827, 1831, 1831a, 1831b, 1831c, 1911, 1912, 1927, 1929, 1930, 1932, 1936, 1937, 1938, 1941, 1979, 1979a, 1985, 1988, 2004, 2013, 2045, 2046, 2050, 2051, 2058, 2059, 2060, 2063, 2065, 2069, 2070, 2071, 2075, 2076, 2077, 2085 and 2092.
