This specimen was lot 4038 in Goldberg sale 70 (Los Angeles, September 2012), where it sold for $184. The catalog description[1] noted, "Germany. 3 Reichsmark, 1926-A. To commemorate the 700 years of freedom for Lubeck. NGC graded MS-63. The Charles Ruby Collection." This type, issued 1926, was struck in Berlin ("A") along with a similar five mark. It is somewhat expensive; perhaps they were melted during World War Two.
Recorded mintage: 200,000 plus a few proofs.
Specification: 15 g, 0.500 fine silver, .241 troy oz ASW, 30 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM-48; J-323.
