Künker sale 353, lot 4212

This specimen was lot 4212 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €15 (about US$21 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Wilhelm II. 1888-1918. 3 Mark 1912, A. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Erworben im Oktober 1972. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, William II, 1888-1918, three mark of 1912. Very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1908-12 and is common. After the monetary reform of 1873, the only pre-reform German coins still permitted to circulate were the old vereinsthaler (18.52 g, 0.900 fine silver) at a value of three mark. No three mark were minted to replace them until 1908, thirty five years after the reform.

Recorded mintage: 4,625,724, a common date.

Specification: 16.67 g, 0.900 fine silver, lettered edge, 33 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: Dav-480, KM 527, J. 103.
