Bavaria 1912-D 3 mark
This specimen was lot 74504 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $125. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Bavaria. 3 Mark, 1912-D. Munich Mint. Otto. PCGS MS-64. Extremely lustrous and with a great cartwheel effect, this near-Gem minor displays a hint of enchanting around the devices." This type was struck 1908-13 but enough were saved that today it is only moderately scarce. It is accompanied by two and five mark pieces. King Otto's brother, Ludwig II, was deposed in 1886 and died a week later under very suspicious circumstances. Otto was also insane and was placed under Prince Luitpold's regency which lasted until his death in 1913.
