Künker sale 263, lot 1475

This specimen was lot 1475 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €4,600 (about US$5,942 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Rudolf II. 1576-1612. Reichstaler 1592, Prag. Münzmeister Lazar Erker. RR Min. Zainende, sehr schön. (Holy Roman Empire, Rudolf II, 1576-1612, thaler of 1592, Prague mint, mintmaster Lazarus Erker. Rare, minimal flaws, very fine.)"

Davenport lists this type for 1587-1600. Davenport lists over 130 different thalers for Austria in the sixteenth century. Prague, of course, was in Bohemia but was run by the Hapsburgs as an ordinary branch mint.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: KM MB300, Dav-8075, Dietiker 383; Halacka 312; Voglh. 104 II.
