Künker sale 293, lot 1590

This specimen was lot 1590 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €1,700 (about US$2,291 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Leopold I. 1657-1705. Doppelter Reichstaler o. J. Hall. Feine Patina, winz. Zainende, fast vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, Leopold I, 1657-1705, undated double thaler, Hall mint. Fine patina, slightly clipped, about extremely fine.)"

The type is not dated but is stylistically so similar to Dav-3249 and Dav-3253 that we have assigned it to the same period. While it is expensive, it is more available than most double thalers.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 56.70 g.

Catalog reference: M./T. 709, Dav-3250; KM-1120.1.
