Sincona sale 50, lot 1153

This specimen was lot 1153 in Sincona sale 50 (Zürich, October 2018), where it sold for 1,800 CHF (about US$2,171 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Leopold I. 1657-1705. 2 Taler o. J. (um 1680), Hall. Hübsche Patina. Vorzüglich. (Austria, Leopold I, 1657-1705, undated double thaler, Hall mint. Attractive patina, Extremely fine.)"

The type is not dated but is stylistically so similar to Dav-3249 and Dav-3253 that we have assigned it to the same period. While it is expensive, it is more available than most double thalers.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 56.87 g.

Catalog reference: KM 1120.2, Herinek 570. Moser/T. 711, Dav-3251.
