Aureo sale 269, lot 382

This specimen was lot 382 in Aureo sale 269 (Barcelona, July 2015), where it sold for €60 (about US$78 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1825. Fernando VII. Sevilla. JB. 4 reales. Fecha rara. BC+/MBC-. (Spain, Ferdinand VII, four reales of 1825, Seville mint, rare date, fine to very fine.)"

This type is listed for 1818-33 for Seville, 1814-30 for Madrid and 1812 for Cadiz. It is the last full weight four reales; subsequent four reales were struck to the de vellon standard of 5.41 g. The SCWC does not recognize this as a rare date.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.896 fine silver, .390 troy oz ASW, this specimen 13,35 g.

Catalog reference: Cayón-15772, Cal. 816, KM 476.3.
