The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''Wilhelm III. 1849-1890 2 1/2 Gulden 1868. Utrecht. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. FDC. NGC MS64.'' (kingdom of the Netherlands, William III, 1849-90, 2½ gulden of 1868, Utrecht mint. Scarce in this quality, uncirculated, in NGC MS-64 holder.)"</blockquote> The specimen shown is a late date of a type struck at the Utrecht mint for the Netherlands 1849-74. Most of the dates are common. After the final issue of 1874, no 2½ gulden were issued until 1898. The .945 fine alloy seems to be unique to the Netherlands.

Sincona sale 26, lot 3553

This specimen was lot 3553 in Sincona sale 26 (Zürich, October 2015), where it sold for 650 CHF (about US$803 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Wilhelm III. 1849-1890 2 1/2 Gulden 1868. Utrecht. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. FDC. NGC MS64. (kingdom of the Netherlands, William III, 1849-90, 2½ gulden of 1868, Utrecht mint. Scarce in this quality, uncirculated, in NGC MS-64 holder.)"

The specimen shown is a late date of a type struck at the Utrecht mint for the Netherlands 1849-74. Most of the dates are common. After the final issue of 1874, no 2½ gulden were issued until 1898. The 0.945 fine alloy seems to be unique to the Netherlands.
