This specimen was lot 33520 in Heritage sale 3073 (Chicago, April 2019), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "Utrecht. Provincial 3 Gulden 1793 MS63 NGC, KM 117. Fully imbued with silky cartwheel luster, a strong example of the type and fully deserving of its choice grade." This type was struck 1763-64, 1785-86, 1791-94 in the waning years of the Dutch Republic. This is the most common date. Altho tariffed at 60 stuivers, the same as a silver ducaton, it is about 5% lighter than that coin. In 1794, the Dutch Republic was snuffed out by invading forces of the French Revolution. The Low Countries did not regain their independence until 1815, with the formation of the kingdom of the Netherlands.
Recorded mintage: 1,692,000.
Specification: 31.82 g, .920 fine silver, .941 troy oz ASW.
Catalog reference: KM 117, Dav-1852.
