Sedwick sale 11, lot 139

Shown is an 1802MoFT two escudos, one of a type struck 1791-1808. Assayer FT is recorded for the years 1801-03. This coin was legal tender in the United States, where it was known as a pistole, and would have traded for $3.87. The specimen shown was lot 139 in Sedwick sale 11 (Winter Park, FL, April 2011), where it sold for $1,092.50. The catalog description[1] noted,

"Mexico City, Mexico, bust 2 escudos, Charles IV, 1802FT. Highly lustrous Mint State with lightly hairlined obverse fields, impressively flashy."

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.875 fine gold, .190 troy oz AGW, this specimen 6.8 grams.
