Sweden 1695 2 mark

Sincona sale 39, lot 4353

This specimen was lot 4353 in Sincona sale 39 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 300 CHF (about US$360 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"SCHWEDEN, Karl XI. 1660-1697 2 Mark 1695. Stockholm. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Vorzüglich-FDC. NGC MS 62. (kingdom of Sweden, Charles XI, 1660-97, two mark of 1695. Stockholm mint. Rare in this condition. Extremely fine-uncirculated.)"

Early two mark (KM 23) were 9.87 g, .821 fine; later types of 1638-48 were heavier but lower in fineness, containing about the same amount of silver. The subsequent issues of the 1660's were 10.40 g, .694 fine silver. This type of 1677-97 is fairly reasonable in circulated condition.
