The first specimen was lot 4327 in Sincona sale 4 (Zürich, October 2011) where it sold for 130 CHF (about US$173 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Brandenburg-Preussen, 1701 Königreich Friedrich II. 1740-1786. Taler 1776. Belorbeertes Brustbild nach rechts. Rv. Gekrönter Adler auf Waffen. Sehr schön. (Kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II, 1740-86, thaler of 1776. Obverse: laureate bust to right; reverse: crowned eagle perches on weapons)."
The second specimen was lot 594 in Sincona sale 6 (Zürich, May 2012) where it sold for 275 CHF (about US$338 including buyer's fees). This type was struck at Berlin (shown here), Breslau and Königsberg 1775-86. These coins saw hard use and are frequently found heavily worn. As they were only 0.750 fine, they were spent and the issues of other principalities hoarded.
Recorded mintage: 391,746.
Specification: 22.27 g, 0.750 fine silver, .537 troy oz AGW, this specimen 21,82 g.
