Sincona sale 5, lot 43

This specimen was lot 43 in Sincona sale 5 (Zürich, May 2012), where it sold for 26,000 CHF (about US$31,993 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Luzern 4 Dukaten 1741. Stempel von Jean Thiébaud. Av. Zwei Wilde Männer mit Schwert und Palmzweig halten eine Krone über das Luzernerwappen. Rv. Wertangabe, Jahreszahl und „I·T“ (für Jean Thiébaud) in einer Kartusche. Sehr selten. Gutes vorzüglich. (Switzerland, canton of Luzerne, four ducats of 1741. Dies by Jean Thiébaud. The four ducats of Lucerne were struck only for special occasions and are all rare. This was one of a series of gold coins which included a single ducat (Fr-323), double ducat (Fr-322), three ducats (Fr-321) and five ducats (Fr-319).
