Sincona sale 70, lot 3417

This specimen was lot 3417 in Sincona sale 70 (Zürich, May 2021), where it sold for 85,000 CHF (about US$112,812 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND | Lucerne | Stadt und Kanton. 5 Dukaten 1741, Luzern. Zwei Wilde Männer mit Schwert und Palmzweig halten eine Krone über das Luzernerwappen. Rv. Wertangabe, Jahreszahl und „I·T (für Jean Thiébaud) in einer Kartusche. Von grösster Seltenheit. NGC MS64. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (Switzerland, canton of Lucerne, five ducats of 1741, Luzern mint. Obverse: two wild men with sword and palm branch support the crowned arms of the city; reverse: value, date and engraver's initials in a cartouche. Of the highest rarity, choice uncirculated, Magnificent condition.)"

This rare piece was accompanied by four ducats (Fr-320), three ducats, double ducat (Fr-322) and single ducat (Fr-323) as well as various silver coins.
