Sincona sale 35, lot 5240

This specimen was lot 5240 in Sincona sale 35 (Zürich, October 2016), where it sold for 525 CHF (about US$623 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Grisons | Kanton, 5 Batzen 1807. FDC. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (canton of Grisons, five batzen of 1807. Uncirculated, Beautiful condition.)"

The canton of Graubunden (Grisons in French) issued a variety of coins during 1807-42, ranging from billon 1/6 batzen to a gold 16 franken. This type was struck 1807, 1820, 1826, and is quite scarce. Forty batzen = four franken = one thaler and ten rappen = one batzen.

Recorded mintage: 6,398.

Specification: billon; this specimen is 4.56 g.
