Sincona sale 43, lot 3017

This specimen was lot 3017 in Sincona sale 43 (Zürich, October 2017), where it sold for 275 CHF (aboout US$328 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Stände von Böhmen und Mähren, 1619-1620 Kipper-24 Kreuzer 1619. Prag. Vorzüglich. (Estates of Bohemia-Moravia, 1619-20, kipper 24 kreuzer of 1619, Prague mint. Extremely fine.)"

Kipper 24 kreuzer were struck at Kuttenberg (KM 227), Prague (shown here) and Joachimsthal (KM 228) for the Protestant Frederick V. The star over crescent is the Prague mintmark, with Benedikt Huebiner serving as mintmaster, 1610-30. Altho nominally a one-third thaler, it is too light and is probably debased as well, being an inflationary issue (1620-24) of the Thirty Years War.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 7.82 g.

Catalog reference: Dietiker 570, Herinek 8, KM 226.
