Baden 1911-G 10 mark

Sincona sale 33, lot 2468

This specimen was lot 2468 in Sincona sale 33 (Zürich, October 2016), where it sold for 4,500 CHF (about US$5,342 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"Anhalt, Herzogtum, Friedrich II. 1904-1914 10 Mark 1911. Karlsruhe Variante mit offener 0 in der Wertzahl. Selten. Gutes vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Anhalt, Frederick II, 1904-14, ten mark of 1911, Karlsruhe mint, variety with open "0" in the date. Rare, Good extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1909-13 for the grand duke of Baden (not Anhalt as stated in the auction catalog description) but is rather scarcer than the contemporary twenty mark (KM 284).

Recorded mintage: 60,649 plus proofs.
